Jargon Buster – Social Media Management.
Defining what social media management is might not be that
difficult after all. It’s quite simply management of your business’s social
media activity. But if it’s not done correctly, it can result in hours of
We’re back with another edition of Jargon Buster and today we’re going to break down exactly what social media management is and how to do it right.
What is Social Media Management?
Social media management (or SMM) is the maintaining and
optimising of your business’s online presence. More specifically, it’s social
With social media being the global juggernaut it is today,
it’s crucial to have a strong presence. There are over 2 billion people on
Facebook. So, it’s no surprise that it’s one of the first places people check
when considering committing to a business for the first time.
Understanding your target audience is key to maintaining and optimising your social media. So, if you haven’t already, check out our blog here.
Maintaining Your Social Media.
Posting regular content to your social media accounts is
important to maintaining a strong online presence.
By understanding your target audience and having an audience persona, you’ll know the pain points they have. Because of this, you’ll want to ensure you address these in your posts.
Optimising Your Social Media.
Posting regularly is good practice, but without optimising
your content, that time is as good as wasted.
When your online content is fully optimised, your engagement rate will skyrocket. This is done by fully understanding your target audience.
Why Do I Need SMM?
A successful social media page is an important part of a
It’s now more common than ever for people to check a
business’s social media pages when they’re first exposed to that business. If
your social media pages are sparse or non-existent, there’s a good chance that
your potential customers will see this as a reflection of your business.
But keeping your accounts consistent and engaging can be
challenging whilst running a business, and that’s where SMM comes in.
Using SMM services via an agency ensures your posts are always of the highest quality. By analysing your competitors and your audience, agencies can create content that will engage with your audience. Furthermore, with the use of different software, agencies are able to schedule posts to coincide with the times your target audience are most likely to be online. They are also able to schedule posts or weeks and months ahead at a time.
What Social Media Sites Should I Use?
The four biggest social media sites in the world are
Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
Not all these sites will suit your business, however. Your
industry and market will determine which social media site your business is
better suited to.
For example, e-commerce businesses tend to suit platforms like Instagram better due to the visual nature of the site.
What Sites Can Help with My SMM?
There are a few different free websites that can help with
your social media management.
For the most part, MeetEdgar is great for general posts to
Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. It’s easy to attach photos and schedule posts
for specific times and days, as well as having an option to only use posts once
or recycle them. MeetEdgar will only allow posts to pages on sites like
Facebook and will not allow posts to personal Facebook pages. Because of this,
if you’re using a personal account for your business on Facebook, you won’t be
able to use MeetEdgar.
For Instagram, a site called Planoly can schedule up to 30
posts with a free account. This includes the image you wish to post, the time
and day of the post, and the hashtags you wish to include. Planoly also allows
the user to sign in directly with their Instagram account, rather than creating
a separate Planoly account.
There are other sites available for you to manage your
social media sites. However, these are the 2 we recommend as they’re easy to
use and free to use for a basic account.
