Meet the YMG Team – Lydia Carrick.
From YMG – Digital Marketing Experts in Chelmsford, Essex.
Hello! We are Your Marketing Guy, and we would love you to meet our team! Today, we’re interviewing our Digital Marketing Assistant, Lydia, who joined the team in July 2018!
First of all, introduce yourself:
Hello! I’m Lydia, although most people call me Lyds. I joined the team as an account manager for the marketing consultancy. I’m entirely self-taught and have 10 years experience in marketing. I previously worked in the fancy dress industry, and I’m quite partial to good zombie makeup!
What attracted you to marketing?
How much “stuff” you need to know! I love learning and researching. So when I started looking into careers, I tried to find the one that had the most to learn – SEO, social media, PPC, video, design, etc.
As it’s always changing, there is normally something new to try. I’m constantly reading articles and books. I even have a spreadsheet to track it all!
What do you like about working at Your Marketing Guy?
At Your Marketing Guy, everyone is so friendly! It’s weirdly laid back but driven at the same time. Everyone is willing to help each other, but also not afraid to ask for help. There’s such a lovely range of challenges to get stuck into. I love working in Chelmsford too. It’s so beautiful! Plus, there’s a Paperchase here.
Do you like stationary then?
I LOVE stationary! I have so many notepads. I’m never without a notepad and a stash of felt tip pens.
Which notepad your favourite?
Has to be my official Pikachu notepad that someone on Reddit sent to me from Japan. Reddit is another addiction of mine!
Do you have any favourite Podcasts?
I do! I love No Such Thing As A Fish. As a copywriter, I need to have as much knowledge about random things as possible. You never know what you are going to need to write about. NSTAAF is excellent as there are so many random and silly facts. It’s by the same people who make QI, so it’s in the same vein.
I also enjoy Amy Porterfield’s Online Marketing Made Easy. She started her podcast around the same time I was starting to further my marketing career, so I feel like I’ve grown with her.
Outside of work, what do you do?
I watch a lot of old movies, and I have a blog dedicated to classic films. I love blogging (I have four!), so I spend most of my time writing, reading and researching.
I’m an avid comic convention attendee. I’m always heading to some form of convention. I also do the whole cosplay thing too. I go for the panels as there’s always a great selection of artists, writers, directors and actors to get advice from. You’ll be surprised at how much you can learn about marketing if you ask the right questions.
Which film is your favourite?
Harvey is my all-time favourite. It’s a James Stewart film about an invisible rabbit. It’s brilliantly acted, especially as you never see the rabbit. Everyone just acts around an invisible character. It’s a ridiculous film, but I like movies like that.
They say you can learn a lot about someone based on what Tim Curry work is your favourite. So…
It’s close between Rocky Horror Picture Show or The Wild Thornberrys. He’s amazing in both. I’m not quite sure what that says about me!
Favourite Spice girl?
Scary Spice. Easy.
