Some business owners believe that advertising is not needed for their business. Or that they can cheap out on their advertising, stopping it frequently, and in general not putting effort into it. Sadly, this is almost a sure-fire way of ensuring your business doesn’t grow. And, of course, growth is the key to a successful business.
Without advertisement, your business will struggle to reach new audiences and potential customers. And, without this, you’ll struggle to find success in the long-term.
Advertising costs money, but with the correct and appropriate techniques, it becomes an investment. Successful advertisement campaigns will reward businesses with more than the advertisement costs. Ford, in this quote, outlines how foolish it is to save money by stopping advertising.

The definition of failure according to the Oxford Dictionary is “not successful”. Now, unless my eyes deceive me, there’s no time limit on that definition. By that token, a failure is only a failure if you choose to stop, give up, and quit when something isn’t immediately successful. If you learn, build, and adapt your business to overcome the lack of success, you haven’t failed.
With this, the bifocal and lightening rod-inventor is entirely correct. Though it may seem like a cheeky and playful quote, it’s actually true. From a certain perspective.
Regardless, it’s highly inspirational for any business that encounters something that isn’t immediately successful. Regardless of if it’s an idea, product, or service.

We expect nothing but the best of inspirational quotes when it comes to Hilary Hinton “Zig” Ziglar. And, once again, the master motivational speaking hits it out of the park.
Ziglar, who was an author and salesman as well as a motivational speaker, has a list of inspirational quotes longer than my hair. And perhaps, one day, we’ll create an entire list of motivational quotes that belong to him. However, for now, we’ve decided on this one as it’s one of our favourites.
Simple, powerful, and to the point. Ziglar outlines how you don’t have to have to already be established to start. Because everybody must start everywhere. Nobody who is anybody got where they are because they won a competition. Nor did they find it in a packet of cereal (speaking of which, did you know they no longer put plastic toys in cereal? I didn’t).
But Ziglar outlines that, to be great, you have to have started. If you don’t, you won’t reach great heights. Simply, anybody can become a success, but not if you don’t start somewhere.

As Powell outlines in his quote, success is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure (if you’ve read the previous quote, we told you so). People that claim they have ‘secrets’ to success more than likely don’t. What they will have is tips and advice on how to prepare, work hard, or learn from failure.
Imagine success as a recipe for a cake. To bake a cake, there are no cheats or secrets (we’re excluding buying one here because that doesn’t count). To bake a cake, you need the correct ingredients or adequate substitutes. Without them, you simply cannot bake the cake. In this analogy, the preparation is the eggs, flour, etc, the hard work is the process of mixing them together, and learning from failure is, well, learning from failure. After all, not every attempt will give you the Betty Crocker-looking cake. At the end of it all, you’ll have a lovely, delicious cake. Or, in other words, success.
Yes, I did just compare having a successful business to baking a cake. If you run a cake-based business, I bet that the last paragraph was surreal for you.
